India has completed 75 glorious years of independence this year on August 15. It is indeed, an elevated moment for all of us to cherish this majestic journey. It is also a remarkable opportunity to rebalance our pledge of patriotism that leads to strong nation-building. A couple of initiatives have been undertaken to celebrate the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” and one among them is the “Har Ghar Tiranga” movement.
This concept has vibrant importance beyond the immediate excitement it has generated to influence people to bring home the Tiranga (Tri color) and hoist it to celebrate the accomplishing legacy of the nation.
The invisible and abstract familiarity or connectedness takes a concrete form in national symbols and the national anthem. The foremost among these symbols is the national flag. Since the dawn of civilisation, flags have had a special place as a symbol of belonging and protection and to rally people together. Times immemorial, stretching towards the kaleidoscopic past, flags have been a part of the Indian tradition, symbolising glory and dharma. Therefore, it is not surprising when this tradition is continued while building India as a modern and developed nation state, drawing from her civilizational ethos. The flag, therefore, is not just a vision for the future, but the values and foundations of our eminent and paramount past.
Categorically, the relationship of citizens with the national flag has always been formal and purely institutional. Har Ghar Tiranga on the other hand seeks to make it a more personal affair for the citizen. The movement also emphasizes the importance of the commitment of the citizens towards nation-building. In particular, it is encouraging youth of the nation to take part in strengthening the foundation of the country and feel the value of being a patriot. The idea behind the movement is to invoke a sense of ownership in Young Leaders and to celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav in the spirit of community participation.
Since its launch, the Har Ghar Tiranga movement has been echoing across India. This is not only because of the innate patriotism immersed in every Indian but also because we feel that the nation is heading in the right direction, where right to be kept right and wrong to be put right. Today, when the youth of the nation see the National Flag, they see hope for a brighter tomorrow. The young and aspirant leaders of today see a developed and accomplishing future with every effort, challenge and spirited fervour.
All along with this, a mother sees opportunities for herself and her family. Our soldier’s see 135 crore citizens saluting their grit, bravery and praying for their well-being. A public servant sees in the flag a commitment to implement the vision of the government as enshrined in the Constitution. When the flag unfurls in the wide open sky, it is not because of the air current but because of the patriotism suspended into the air. Har Ghar Tiranga aims to have citizens hoisting our National Flag in their homes with the same zeal to cherish the 76th brand New Year. This encourages the new generation to discover the many threads of our freedom struggle, while older generations and communities reconnect to the events that led to a free India.
The flag is not just a vision for the future but also reflects the values of the rich and illustrious past of the nation. Yes, we are patriots. We are proud to be Indian with decency and discipline for taking the Tiranga to every home and connect the people with the pious resolve to establish India as the world’s biggest power.
